Note on T-8810/2/2006
I recently saw a post on the use of T-88 and measuring with a digital scale. From what I have seen the epoxy is quite a bit more dense than the hardener which means measuring by weight will not give you the same volume. The T-88 instructions indicate mixing equal parts of Epoxy and Hardener BY VOLUME. This is important for 2 reasons:
  • Who knows how an improper balance of A and B affects strength?
  • You will run out of hardener with approximately 17% of the epoxy remaining (to throw out).

In the pictures below I completed the following measurements:

  1. I used the tare function of the scale to zero out the weight of the container.
  2. I measured 5.9g (approximately the amount needed after mixing to complete one side of one rib).
  3. I measured 5.9g of hardener.
  4. I placed the 2 containers with equal amounts by weight side by side and visually compared the volumes. Although not as striking in the picture there is less epoxy than hardener.
  5. I added epoxy until the levels were the same ending with 7.1g
During testing of my first sacrificial rib I noticed that I was using hardener at a higher rate than epoxy and read the instructions again. I originally planned on using the scale for a higher degree of accuracy when in fact it introduces a difference in volume of about 17% which is significant. I no longer use the scale other than to use about 5.8g as my starting amount. After that I measure visually. The cups "donated" by McDonalds are perfect because they are clear and small.

Gusset Trimming and Sanding10/1/2006
I set the router up with the laminate flush trimming bit and trimmed the gussets on all the ribs that haven't been done yet.

Also took fine sandpaper (120 grit) and slightly rounded the sharp edges of the gussets. Using threaded rod I made a clamp that holds the ribs together and hangs from the ceiling of the shed. Trying to beat the freezing weather. Already using the kerosene heater to maintain about 75 degress F in the shed. Almost half done!
