| | Thanks to the propane heater outside temperatures in the single digits won't prevent progress on the ribs. I think the next part to tackle will be the horizontal stabilizer and elevator. Man hours: 4 |

| | While picking up some plumbing parts at Home Depot I figured I'd ask about the propane heaters mentioned on the Piet forum. They were on sale. It wasn't a catalytic heater like recommended but it was rated at 45000 BTUs and runs on grill gas. When I entered the shop it was 8.6F. I fired up the heater and ran into the house to get the camera. By the time I got back out to the shed (1 minute or so) it was reading 12.2. I came back into the house to get some things before heading out to finish the back side of the last rib and when I made it back out (I don't know, ...20-25 mintues later) it was at 81.5F and climbing. I shut if off and will probably turn it back in and leave a window cracked open a bit to control the heat and extend my life (Heater instructions have carbon monoxide warnings galore). |

| | Gussets on both sides of #19. No time to work on #20 tonight although #20 sounds like a real "milestone" rib. It occurred to me tonight, as I quickly flipped all the clamps off pulled the rib out of the main jig and one by one snapped the the clamps over each gusset on the flipside jig, that using nails must be quite the pain in the ass. And for all that hard work you pick up a couple of pounds in nail weight. Before I devised the clamps I was told that "the gussets have a way of moving" if you just clamp them. Guess what? They don't. I am very happy with this clamping system. Man hours: 0.75 |
