The second of the 2 ribs located at the wing attach point for the flying struts has it's second set of gussets.

Another Rib Done, Another Half Done3/3/2007
Glued the backside gussets on one of the ribs located at the lift strut and the first set of gussets for the other one. Tomorrow's plan is to add clamps to the jig, mark the jig for the vertical members and to make a few more sets of gussets. Hard to believe that 960 gussets have all been painstakingly applied to ribs.

First Flying Strut Wing Rib Started2/25/2007
Steamed a capstrip, retooled the jig for a 1" spar opening (for the 1/8" ply doublers) and put together the 1st of the 2 ribs that are placed next to the attach point for the flying struts. This will replace 2 ribs that were already made. I'm sure I can find 2 ribs I'd like to replace with better ones. When I finish the other one like this one I will still have 6 to go (all ribs with vertical truss members). I did notice that once I add 7 more clamps to the jig I will have to retool the opening for the last 2 which will be the end ribs near the wing tips since they don't need 1" spar openings.

Finishing Touches on Rib #27, #28 Gusset Complete2/23/2007
Trimmed and sanded rib #27 and glued the backside gussets on #28. I'm thinking I'll make a couple more with a 1" opening instead of 3/4" in the case I find the plywood reinforcements under the lift struts needing to pass through the vertical truss members on the nearby ribs.

Rib #27 Done, #28 Underway and #29 Steamed2/18/2007
#28 is really #26. After #28 gets the second set of gussets the jig will get a reconfiguration for the vertical struts. Also will need to make a few more sets of gussets including the new ones for the vertical members. Although there are 2 ribs I choose not to use, they will come in handy if I need to put my jig back into "standard mode".

Trimmed and Sanded 5 Ribs2/14/2007
Trimmed gussets on ribs #22 through #26 on the router and then sanded off the sharp edges. Next milestone is #28. #29 through #34 require some new gussets to be made and additional clamps added to the jig for the vertical struts. I only plan on keeping 32 of the 34 ribs.

Rib #26 Done, #27 Underway, #28 Capstrip Steamed2/11/2007
Good warm day out in the shop. Still looking over plans to see how the jig will be retooled for the non-standard ribs. Some will need to accomodate plywood that attaches between the spar and metal fittings. Once #28 is done, the rest will have vertical struts throughout the truss. #27 and #28 are redo ribs to take the place of two I didn't like. (Wallhangings)
